Bit-O-Honey history

Bit-O-Honey first appeared in 1924 and was made by the Schutter-Johnson Company of Chicago. Bit-O-Honey was a new kind of candy bar consisting of six pieces of candy wrapped in wax paper and then packaged in a wrapper. Almond bits embedded in a honey-flavored taffy made for a long-chewing candy. Today, Bit-O-Honey is made by the Nestle Company.

Bit-O-Honey memories... I was probably one of the luckiest little girls in the world. My grandfather owned a grocery store and we lived next door to it! Every day I would go over and visit him. He would sit me on his lap behind the counter, which conveniently was also where he displayed the candy, and we would talk. It was always at that time that he would ask me if I wanted a piece of candy. He would tell me to choose what I wanted, but he really didn't need to because I always chose Bit-O- Honey.

That sweet chewy morsel with the bits of almond was and still is my favorite. After I would tell him I chose Bit-O-Honey, I would always ask him if he wanted one too, and he would reply that he had all the honey he needed right on his lap. Believe me, memories like these are ones you cherish for the rest of your life. ~ Marjorie from Missouri

When I was in Mrs. Rice's fourth grade class, at Hyattsville, MD elementary school, back in 1930, I would get a nickel a week allowance. A nickel was hard to come by, during those depression days and I would save this big allowance, only to buy one thing, a BIT-O-HONEY CANDY BAR!!! The reason, BIT-O-HONEY CANDY BAR came in six sections, individually wrapped so I could save one section of this most delicious candy bar, to be consumed each day for the rest of the school week. Even today, seventy-five years later, I still look-for, buy and enjoy this chewy, almond flavor candy bar on a continuing basis. ~ Great Grand Dad Milo from Maryland
