Bun candy memories... When I was young it
was a big fad to eat "Buns". My friends and I went crazy over these
goodies. Every day my friends and I would take our allowance money and
buy a huge bagful at the corner store. We would then play trivia games
and the winner could trade for his or her favorite flavor. I would try
my hardest to win the game so I could get all the caramel "Buns". By
the time we had gone home we were so stuffed with "Buns" that we could
not eat our dinner. We at least did this twice a week. You would think
I would be tired of this candy after all we ate as kids, but I'm still
out today hunting down "My Buns"! ~ Debby from New York
My whole
family remembers Buns fondly. Growing up, they were a special treat,
not just because they're tasty, but because, being little kids, they
were HUGE! My sisters and I grew up in the 70's, but I think they were
around much earlier, considering my Mom used to talk about them.
I still buy them whenever I see
them. They also had special significance because they were made in our
home town, Fort Wayne, Indiana, not far from where we lived. In fact,
when we were kids, we remember them as Wayne Buns. Boy that brings
back memories. I can almost taste the vanilla cream just thinking
about it. I just had to order some so that my wife could try them! ~

Growing up, I lived in a small Midwestern town and attended the smallest church in town. We had little choice but to go there, as every
living relative was a member and my mom had already caused a stir by marrying a Catholic. Dad took us to Mass on Saturday and Mom would make
sure that we had our Protestant fill on Sunday and Thursday.
Thursday was choir night and the youth director was my great-aunt, the local librarian and consummate old maid. She couldn't carry a tune to
save her life and didn't seem to like children, so Thursday nights were a test of my youthful patience.
But there were two things that had me looking forward to Thursday. When practice was over, those who hadn't driven her over the edge were
rewarded with one, and sometimes two Bun candies. And for this little girl, sitting on the couch with her big brother, eating a Bun, and
watching The Waltons was as good as it got! ~ Mary from Minnesota
