Lobster Barley Pops

We no longer carry this candy.

Lobster Barley Pops memories... Growing up in New England lobster barley pops were a special treat. I truly thought everyone ate them as a kid until I moved to New Jersey while in high school. When I mentioned them here, no one seemed to know what they were.

I remember my mom taking me on trips to Newburyport MA (I am from Ipswich MA) and getting to pick one treat from the candy store. I always went for this super sweet lollypop which reminds me in some ways of the coating on candy apples.

When I see these I always think of special days with my mother. There is a unique "New Englandness" to their lobster shape which makes me even more fond of them. ~ Diantha from New Jersey

I grew up in a house with my 8 brothers and sisters. We didn't have a lot of money but I never considered us poor. At Christmas, we would all hang our Christmas stockings (blue wool knee-socks really), along the banister of our stairs. The stockings were always stocked with things we needed tooth brushes, mittens etc. At the toe of the stocking there was always a tangerine along with a bag of chocolate coins and of course a barley pop. They came in different shapes not just lobsters. They were our favorites. A long lasting treat among the boring stuff in our stockings. Thanks Santa!!! ~ Leslie from Massachusetts

My mom grew up in Gloucester, Mass and now lives in NY. When we were growing up she and my dad would always take the five of us (all daughters) to spend summers in Gloucester to visit my grandmother.

We always had tons of fun at the beach, but on Sundays we would all go to Rockport to browse the art galleries and shops.  As kids we thought this was boring, but as a treat we always got to go the General Store in Rockport which had an abundance of different candies. We would always get the lobster pops!! They were our all time favorite treat!! Because my sisters and I all live the NY/NJ area, we can never find lobster pops.  Sometimes, we found them on trips to the beach but they were never the same as the ones from New England.

I was so excited to find them on your website and when I told my sisters they insisted I buy a case to share with them!!! They bring back lovely memories of Gloucester and Rockport!!! When our kids were younger and we would travel to New England, I would always let them buy lobster pops as a treat... so the tradition continues!!! ~ Mary Jane from NY
