Choward's Violet Mints and Scented Gum memories...
Violet Mints... mmmmm just thinking about them reminds me of some of my best childhood memories. My mother was sick a lot in my childhood but when she was feeling well, my mother and I would go to a place called Town and Country and she would get her hair done. Before we went I would be allowed to go to the "smoke shop" and get two packs of "purple flower candy". She would get her hair done and I would get to spend the whole day with Mom, just her and I. To this day I think of her and our times together and can almost taste the violet. I would take the first pack and just eat them all, then I would take the second pack and savor them, my mother was gone a lot due to her illness, but when I was missing her, I could pull out a Violet mint and nibble it, and feel so much better. I could make a pack last for weeks and weeks. My mother has been gone for almost 3 years now. I have spent hours trying to find those wonderful mints, you see I have 3 children and they never got to meet her. I have been telling them about her, and now that I have found my "purple flower candy" again, I am going to share that with them too. My mom would allow me to have candy she said were for kids, but wouldn't buy that sweet-smelling purple candy. She told me that it was for grown ups. I can remember how much of a real "treat" it was when grandma gave me a Violet candy when my mom wasn't around. I have loved them ever since. I can't find Violets in most places around the country, so I pick up packs when I visit. Now that I've found your website, I'll be ordering a lot more.
