Grapeheads memories...

Grapeheads candy

Wow. I haven't had Grapeheads in so long (mind you, I'm only 23). When I was young, there was a family run store near my bus stop. Whenever I did good in school, I was treated to some candy from the shop. Grapeheads were usually near the top of my list. Since they were so cheap, I'd be able to get a few boxes.

Lemonheads were a close second, but I love grape flavored candy. The weird coating was the best. I would nibble the outer coating off, leaving the hard inside. When I did that, I'd pop a bunch of the insides in my mouth and enjoy. Just thinking about them makes me want to order a case or three. Too bad the boxes are so small. ~ Artimus from Pennsylvania

When I was a kid, every summer we would to go to the Lan Oak Pool by our house. There were only a few families in our neighborhood who had pools and this seemed like a big treat for me. I would always run into a few friends from school and we would swim until it was time to go.

I don't know how, but I always had my own money to spend on treats, so before we would leave I would ask my mom if I could get something from the concession stand. She would agree and let me go. I would by the Alexander the Grape and wait until I got home to eat them. Sometimes I would wait until it was night time and go outside in my back yard and lay on the picnic table eating my candy thinking wouldn't it be great to have a pool in my yard and a concession stand to have all the candy I wanted. ~ Diane from Florida
