Heath bars memories...

When I was a child, my grandmother lived a few years in San Francisco and owned a laundry store. Whenever I
went to visit her I would always grab one of those Heath Bars in front of the counter. I would always run my fingers across the bar to make sure I
didn't picked a cracked bar because I loved opening the wrapper and just seeing a beautiful, chocolate Heath Bar.
And whenever she came back home to visit, I would call the day before to tell her to make sure she didn't forget the Heath Bars. The ones she
brought home I would stick in the freezer so then when I wanted to eat the I break a piece off and stick it in my mouth to see if I could resist
the temptation of not biting it. Sometimes when we had vanilla ice cream in the house I would crush a Heath Bar and stir it into the ice cream. It
was so good but nowadays they have Heath Bar Ice Cream available at the supermarkets but I still like to pick up a Heath Bar now and then when I'm
at the market. ~ Elizabeth from California
In the late 1940's, Robinson, Ill. had a
population of about 7,200 and the locals all used Heath dairy products and, of
course, ate Heath candy bars. Mr. Heath was known to own a beautiful Chrysler
Town and Country convertible car with real wood exterior trim.
Since Heath toffy is brittle and the
process for making it was not automated in those years, some pieces became
broken and therefore were not usable as centers in the candy bars. Great luck
for the homemakers of Robinson!
Broken pieces were available at the dairy
for home recipes. The toffy is great in cookies and other treats. ~ John from
California
