I always loved Brach's jelly nougats, and
by the time I got to college, I could not write a paper without a big bag of
them by my side. I was an English major, so you can imagine how many nougats I
consumed in four years! When I was at the University of California at San Diego
in the early 70's, there were only two supermarkets around that carried bulk
candy; both were 15 minute drives from the campus.
One night, I knew I'd be up
very late with a paper due the next day, and I just had to have my jelly
nougats. If you know La Jolla, you know that the occasional fog can be
treacherous to drive in. This was one of those nights. I had to drive with my roommate's head hanging out of the window to see the lane markings so that we
wouldn't crash into an oncoming car -- all for those jelly nougats. It was worth
it -- I got the nougats and aced the paper! ~ Julia from Virginia
I remember my grandmother always having
this candy in her purse when she took us to church. She would give us candy to
help us stay awake and be quite. We would smash them and make them flat before
eating them. We thought it made it look like we had a bigger piece of candy.
It has been a long time since I have seen
this candy or had a piece. I didn't know they still made it or even the name. I
have to share with my son now. Plus it's a reminder of my granny. Can't wait to
get it home. ~ Felicia from Washington
Jelly Nougats were my favorite candy to
pick from when we went to my
grandparents house for a visit. They would always have a candy dish filled with
assorted candies and my choice would always be the Jelly Nougats. I was
only allowed one piece a candy so I picked the Jelly Nougat because it was like
getting two candies in one. I would try to bite off all the nougat that was
around the jelly pieces, then I would eat the jelly pieces saving the red pieces
for last.
How funny it is that we have such fond
childhood memories from a favorite piece of candy. A co-worker told me about
this site and it was like I was a kid again in a candy store when I was checking
all the candies you have available. ~Theresa from California
