M & Ms memories...

I am 42 years old now but I hold a special memory in my mind from my much younger days. My dad, I call him my dad because truly "Any man can be a
father but it takes a special man to be a dad", worked at Cape Kennedy in Florida as an electrician. Throughout his career, he worked on many rockets
and satellites and eventually the Space Shuttles.
His job was a tedious one that took steady hands and steady nerves. He would wake at 5 am every morning and work until late in the afternoon. As a
child, I remember how much I looked forward to dad's return from work. I would run into his arms and he would pick me up and give me a big hug then I
would pretend to sneak into his pocket.
Every day, I would unbutton that pocket to find a pack of plain M & M's and every single time, I was delighted. He would give me a peck on the
forehead and say "For the apple of my eye" and I would run off, excited and ready to show my mom the treasure I found.
My dad passed away many years ago but that memory has left a smile in my heart and whenever I see a pack of plain M & M's, I can't help but remember
how such a small thing, combined with a big heart, made me so happy. ~ Janice from Florida
When my sister and I were little, we would have arguments over the best way to eat our peanut M & Ms. She would
sort hers by colors and eat all of one color, then all of the next color, and so on till all were eaten. She would crunch up the whole candy and eat
it.
I didn't care which color I would eat, but I would put one in my mouth and hold it till the chocolate got soft,
then pop the peanut out and eat the candy coating and save the peanut in my cheek. When I had five or six peanuts saved up, I'd eat them together,
then start over. She'd call me a goober for saving my peanuts to eat last, and I'd call her a weiner for crunching hers all together. Our children are
all grown up now, and she still calls me a goober! ~ Genie from Texas
