Mike and Ike memories...

When I was a kid, I had a
friend named Micah. The first time I saw Mike-n-Ikes was at a movie
theatre, and I "accidentally-on-purpose" called them "Micah-n-Ikes."
For years, that's what my whole family called them.
Fast forward, years later: I am married,
and have twin boys. Their names are Micah and Ari and a friend's little girl
called the candy that she got at the movies "Micah-N-Ari's!" So, for their Bar
Mitzvah, we are having a movie theme. At the concession stand, we will offer
candy to the kids as place cards telling them where to sit. We are having boxes
made up to say "Micah-N-Ari's" filled with Mike-n-Ikes!
I can't wait to see my kids' faces when
they see their favorite namesake candy with their names actually on the box! ~

I grew up the eighth child of twelve
children. My parents always looked for creative and inexpensive ways for us to
have fun, especially during the long summer months. I remember one very special
summer evening when seven of us kids piled into the station wagon with my mom
and dad.
We were all dressed in our PJ's and
headed to the local drive in theatre in Union City, California. Dad backed the
car in to the parking spot and opened the tail gate for us to sit on (although
we often would sit on the roof of the car). He then headed to the snack bar (the
us seven in tow) and bought us each our own box of Mike and Ike. Since we rarely
got sweets, and almost never our own box, this was an especially wonderful
treat.
We soon left from the snack bar and
headed over to the playground at the drive in. We sat on the merry go round (the
old metal push kind) and traded with each other for our favorite flavor. We had
such a wonderful evening, I don't even think we watched the movie.
I lost my father in 1982, but will always
have the fond memories of the fun times he and my mom always created for us.
Although I live in Texas now, I was able to take my daughter to that same drive
in about 10 years ago before it was closed. Before the movie, I gave her a box
of Mike and Ike's. ~ Julianne from Texas
