Slap Stix Memories...

When I was a little girl my favorite
candy was slap stix. My Mother always bought them for me each grocery shopping
day. I grew up and married a man in the military. We were sent to Germany for
three years. This was the first time that I had been away from my family for any
length of time.
I missed my Mother so much and she could
tell by the letters and phone calls, even though I tried hard to hide it. My
husband brought the mail home one day and he had a box from my Mother, I opened
it and it was filled to the brim with slap stix and a note saying, "I love and
miss you too, this should make you feel better." I cried and ate at least six
slap stix that night.
My Mother passed away recently. As I
often sat around thinking of her, one day I thought about the slap stix for some
reason. I immediately began searching for them. Your store is the only place I
can find them. Thank you for a wonderful memory. I smile every time I think of
slap stix. ~ Diane from Georgia
As a young child I remember my mom taking my sisters and I to the store to get Slap Stixs. Each of us was
allowed to get one. This was the big treat on Friday afternoons. We always knew as soon as my mom got home from work we would be able to go down to
Mr. Coles and get our Slap Stix. We would each peel the layers off instead of eating it like you are "supposed to".
Once I got older (high school age) we moved to another town. The town was bigger and there was no country store nearby. My days of Slap Stix were
gone. After college my job required me to travel and I was excited to find the Slap Stix once again. In airports I would always stop by the candy shop
and pick up Slap Stix.
Once I began a family of my own I became a stay-at-home mom. Again, there was no where for me to find my all time favorite candy until one day I
passed a small country store about 20 minutes out of town. I took a chance and low and behold they had Slap Stix. You can image my excitement. Also,
my boys who were 7 and 10 at the time had never had the opportunity to share in the joy of eating a Slap Stix - layer by layer.
We now take special Saturday drives to stop by this store and buy Slap Stixs. I can't limit them to one each. We buy 10 or more. My memories of Slap
Stix are especially fond because my boys never had the opportunity to meet my mother. I love to share stories of what I did as a child that include
her. This is one story that they can not only hear but relive.
To say that Slap Stix is my favorite candy is an understatement. It has such great memories that I can pass on to my children who in turn will surely
be eating Slap Stix with there children. ~ Debbie from South Carolina
