Smarties memories...

Smarties

I remember in 3rd grade, my teacher would put up a some kind of question each week. Typically they would be logic problems, questions we'd have to spend time figuring out the answer to. Those of us who could figure the answer out wrote it on a piece of paper and put it in a little box, and at the end of the week, she would draw out all the answers and give everyone who got the answer correct a handful of Smarties, because that's what we were.

I confess, even now, when I can't figure out a difficult problem or situation, I'll eat a package (or three!) of Smarties, in hopes that they'll help me find the answer! ~ Bethany from Ohio

More memories... Smarties were always my very favorite candy. When I would go to the grocery store you could buy 3 rolls for a nickel and I would always buy as many as I could and hoard them away in my room and carefully select one roll, preferably one with several white or purple pieces (yes there is a difference in flavor and color). I would eat them one at a time saving my favorite ones (white & purple) for very last. I don't know why I loved Smarties so much but they were sugary and cheap and my favorite. ~ Kevin from Illinois

Ever year after Halloween, me and my mom would go through my candy bag and find those Smarties. Pulling out the wrapper, I would love sorting each colored Smartie into its own group and then gobbling them up afterwards. Smarties were my family's favorite delicacy, and we'd sit roasting by a cozy fireplace without own little groups of Smarties, each savoring the chalky taste.

I am away from my family now and I miss them every day, but each time I open a brand new pack of Smarties, I would remember the memories packed up tight for me. ~ Kate from Michigan
