Slap Stix memories... When I first started kindergarten I was very shy.
A little boy named Chase, in my class was also shy. After the first day
or two we started to talk and we sort of came out of our shell. After
that we became best friends and Chase would bring me a Slap Stix every
day. I fell in love with that candy and from that point on
I called him my 'candy man'. For six years we enjoyed each others
company and our Slap Stix, then his family moved away. Last year I
went to an elementary reunion and to my surprise, there he was with a
Slap Stix in hand. I was so taken aback that I was speechless.
After talking all night we
discovered that we were still best friends and we have are going to
have dinner Saturday night. Thank you for having the best candy in the
world and after Saturday nite--who knows??!! ~ Jeri from Missouri
Every summer my parents would drag my younger sister
and brother and I all the way from Seattle to Pocatello, Idaho to
visit my grandparents and other family members. Normally, the kids
would sit around being bored and reading comics that belonged to my
mom for 2 weeks while the adults gossiped.
One year, my aunt had extra tickets to the circus and we all went.
There, she bought my sister and I our first Slap Stix sucker. It was
so good, I'd never had anything like it. My sister and I walked to the
little store up the road from my grandpa's house (it felt like a mile,
but it was actually only a few blocks) every day and bought a Slap
Stix sucker.
We were so sad when we returned home to find out stores in our city
did not carry this candy. Every year after that, my sister and I would
stock up on Slap Stix suckers at the little market up the street from
my grandpa's house. On the visit we made when I was 13, I discovered
even the little market had stopped carrying Slap Stix. My sister and I
were mortified. Our favorite candy, gone! I'm so thankful your site
has Slap Stix, I'm going to give my sister a box of them for
Christmas. I'm sure she'll be pleasantly surprised. ~ Katie from
Washington
When I was around 6 my
mom would give me candy money once a week. I think it was quarter. My first
thought upon having that coin in my hand was going to the store and getting a
Slap Stix sucker. My older sister and I would walk through the alley and down a
road to get to the small grocers.
On the way we had to pass a house where a
scary looking man always sat on the porch. We had heard stories about the man
and were warned to stay away from him. Some said he would lure children in and
cook and eat them. Others said he was just a mean old man. I was always very
frightened walking past that house. I wanted a Slap Stix sucker so badly I
braved it each week. I would buy 2. One for now and one for later in the week. I
was so sad when we had to move from there. What I missed most was the weekly
Slap Stix suckers. ~ Peggy from Illinois
