Slo Pokes memories... When I was about 10 years old my cousins and I
would pretend we were cowboys out on the range rounding up horses. Of
course, hard working cowboys had to have some grub, so we would pretend
that our Slo Pokes were beef jerky.
One afternoon we decided that
beef jerky could not possibly have a stick in it, so we worked and
worked and finally broke the sticks off of our yummy "beef jerky".
Unfortunately, we didn't think of the fact that the heat and dirt
mixed with our wonderful caramel "beef jerky" without a stick would
make our hands, face, and arms a horrible mess. When we went in to clean up my mothers eyes got as big
as quarters! I don't know if it was the severe scolding we got or the
time it took out of our playtime to clean up, but from then on we
pretended that our beef jerky was the kind that did indeed, come with
a stick.
My cousins are all grown and
moved away, but when we talk on the phone we still, from time to time,
will talk about our escapades as small boys and that particular day
will always make us laugh. We all have admitted that when we can find
them, we have all sat and enjoyed our "beef jerky" on a stick. Thanks
for a great memory, Slo Pokes.

Growing up, my sister and I would get to
go the the store in the summer. I think we might have 10 cents each. This was a
small country store and the candy was right there in the front of the store. It
was so hard to make a decision, but I always ended up with a Slo Poke. I can
still remember the taste.
Thinking back, I would make that candy
last all day. I would eat on it for a while put it back in the wrapper and go
play. But in the back of my mind I knew the candy was waiting for me. Whenever
we visited our cousins we did the same thing. We would all head to the store and
I would end up with the Slo Poke.
These are great memories and I often wish
we could go back to the time when a candy could last all day. ~ Judy from Texas
